GULF OF THAILAND, CAMBODIA: PTTEP has plugged and abandoned its first exploration well in Cambodia Block B , Vimean Morodok MahaNorkor-1 after detecting non-recoverable oil shows in the wildcat.

The well was drilled to 2,930 metres (9,613 ft) in about 75 metres (246 ft) of water using jackup GSF Key Gilbratar.

PTTEP operates the Khmer sub-basin offshore block about 80 kilometres (50 miles) east of the Thai-Cambodian Overlapping Claims Area, in the Gulf of Thailand. PTTEP, Singapore Petroleum Co. (SPC) and Resourceful Petroleum Ltd. are equal sharing partners in the block.

SPC said its share of the drilling costs for the exploration well amount to about US$3 million. SPC's Vice-President of Exploration & Production, Brian Boslaugh said the partners will undertake further technical studies to evaluate exploration prospects in the offshore block.
