RETIREMENT

Prime Minister Hun Sen has issued a notification asking all civil servants to retire when they reach 55 years of age "with no exception". The notification came after the government found the royal decree "Civil Servants Common Statute" issued in 1994 and the subdecree "Managing Civil Servants to be Retired as Retirement Limited Age" issued in 2002 have not been implemented properly. The government has now said it will not allow any civil servant to continue working beyond the retirement age and anyone older than 55 who is currently working must retire immediately to ensure younger generations have the chance to work.
