VILLAGERS NAB ALLEGED THIEVES
A couple was caught and taken to the police by villagers after they attempted to kill Chhun Chheang Dy, 38, and rob him of his motorbike on Tuesday morning in Ampil Chrum village, Tonle Bet commune, Tbaung Khmum district, Kampong Cham province. They attempted to rob the victim while using his motor taxi service by hitting him with an ax. Eventually villagers arrived on the scene following the victim's cries for help. The suspects are Teuk Savath, husband, 46, and Sum Sam Ath, 34. Both the victim and the suspects are residents of the commune where the crime took place.

TEEN BAG-SNATCHER receives sentence
Morm Sunhuor a 16-year-old male from Dangkor district, Phnom Penh, was sentenced to two years and six months in prison by a Phnom Penh court for his involvement in a robbery. He was arrested by the police on November 12, 2008, after he snatched a bag from two people who were riding a motorbike. His friend, who also took part in the crime, escaped.

TWO BODYGUARDS ACCUSED OF VIOLENCE
Two bodyguards of a highranking official, Chhel Chhein, 28, and Chea Chantha, 27, were taken to the Dangkor district police station for hitting a man with a gun in a motorbike incident. The accident was caused by the two bodyguards, who were speeding up on their motorbike and ignored the traffic lights at a juncture. They nearly crashed into the victim, who shouted at them for violating the traffic law. At the police station, the victim demanded a compensation of US$700. The bodyguards paid him only $100, which he had no choice but to accept.

MAN ARRESTED IN THEFT OF NECKLACE
A man was arrested by police while hiding in a villager's house soon after he had snatched a necklace from Ly Malen, a 21-year-old female from Phnom Penh's Daun Penh district, police said. The crime happened while the victim was riding a motorbike with her husband on Street 63 in Beoung Keng Kang 1 commune, Chamkarmon district, Phnom Penh, on Monday evening. The one-damlung necklace was not recovered. The arrested was Keo Bunnaroth, 26.

ACCIDENT KILLS ONE, INJURES ANOTHER
A motorbike ran into a pick-up on Road 22 in Sambuor village, Rokar Khnong commune, Daun Keo district, Takeo province on Monday. Its rider Heang Thy, 37, was killed at the scene and his passenger Kang Sophoeun, was severely injured and taken to hospital.
