SAUCY YOUTHS STONE MEATBALL MERCHANT
Pursat provincial police arrested three young men after they refused to pay for their beers at a karaoke club and then injured a meatball seller outside. The incident took place in Pursat's Prey Nhi commune, Pursat town, on Sunday night. Police are still searching for five other suspects who fled the scene. The meatball seller, 25-year-old Doung Mara, was hit in the head with stones and subsequently hospitalised.

CONVICT RELEASED, FINDS WAY BACK
A convict was arrested and sent back to prison after he stole a motorbike from a villager in Stung Hav district, Preah Sihanouk province, on August 18. Police said that Sok Ra, the felon in question, was serving a jail sentence for robbery at Kampot provincial prison. He was released on August 12 and was back to his old ways within a week.

LAND MINES KILL TWO IN BATTAMBANG
Two people died in Battambang province on Monday after stepping on land mines as they were taking their ox cart to their rice field. The deceased were a 28-year-old woman and her 12-year-old nephew, both of Battambang's Bavel district, Ampil Pram Deum commune. Police said that the mines on the path were laid decades ago, but that deminers have yet to visit the area.

LOVESICK RAPIST SENT TO LOCKUP
A man was sent to Kampong Speu provincial court for raping a 17-year-old woman in Sen Dei commune on Saturday night. The suspect allegedly encountered the girl as she was walking with her young neighbours from a concert in Svay Tavong village around 11pm. The suspect then led her alone to a secluded area and committed the immoral act. After his arrest, the man confessed to police that he loved the girl.

MOTORBIKE BANDIT ELUDES POLICE
A motorbike thief is on the loose in Banteay Meanchey province. Police said an unknown raider stole three motorbikes in two districts - Serei Sophon and Preah Net Preah - on Thursday. They do not yet have any suspects in the case.
