An 8-strong gang armed with guns got away with nearly US$3,000 from a family in the Bakan district of Pursat province, a police source said on Wednesday.
Bakan district police chief Lay Vitou told DAP News Cambodia that the victim, Ouk Yith, 52, lived in Angkrong village, Knar Tatiteung commune of Pursat province.
The police said that the bandits, led by their chief wielding an AK47 assault rifle, took nearly US$ 3,000 including gold, money and other property around 8:10 pm then fled.
One of the victims recalled seeing a light bright then 3 shots fired. “Fortu-nately I was luckily,” the witness said. “I ran about 150 meters after I jumped through the window because I was very afraid.”
There have been six recent robberies in Pursat, a police office said.
Many residents in Bakan district were very scared about this, because the savage thieves did not pity even children. Some fear that the gang will soon kill.
Pursat provincial senior officials and police are making investigations into the cases.
