PHNOM PENH, Mar. 15, 2010 (Kyodo News International) -- Prime Minister Hun Sen said Monday Cambodia has never allowed any unannounced visit to the country by fugitive former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
Speaking to graduate students, Hun Sen said there is nothing to hide when Thaksin visits Cambodia and that all such will be televised as was done on Thaksin's previous visits.
Thaksin, who is made an adviser to the Cambodian government and Hun Sen on economic affairs, has made three visits to Cambodia since his appointment last year.
Hun Sen made the statement Monday in response to reports in Thai media that Thaksin had traveled to Cambodia's northern province Siem Reap ahead of the mass red-shirt protests in Bangkok against Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.
Hun Sen also ordered troops along Cambodia-Thai border to ''stay calm, and not to make any movement'' that could be construed as provocative by the Thai military.
He said Cambodia has no desire to ''take any advantage'' of internal problems in Thailand.
He also asked Cambodians working in Thailand not engage in the protests against the Thai government.
