Thai Permits
Thousands of Cambodians registered to work in Thailand may have missed Wednesday’s deadline to verify their nationalities and secure renewed employment permits in the country, according to statistics from the Thai ministry of labour. Ministry documents translated into English by Thailand’s Human Rights and Development Foundation state that as of last Friday, 37,983 of the 124,902 Cambodians who were previously legal workers in Thailand had not yet registered for nationality-verification. Thai officials have said that workers who did not register by the deadline would be deported, and Thai government spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn said Wednesday that this policy remained in place.
