Migrant Workers

Police discovered more than 252 would-be Cambodian migrant workers during raids yesterday on three villas in Russey Keo district’s Chruoy Changvar commune, officials said.

Commune chief Pich Saroeun said a private company, the Training Housewife and Professional and Management Centre, was responsible for holding the group, which included many women and underage girls due to be sent to Malaysia to work as servants.

“The villa’s owners and the people are now being held at the district police station for interrogation,” he said.

District governor Ly Rosami said he did not know the total number of workers involved, but that they were crammed into the villas. “They locked the doors without these people being able to get out,” she said.
