Tehran, August 12, (IRNA) – Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and visiting Cambodian Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Hornam Hung here Wednesday stressed the need for expansion of bilateral relations.
According to the News and Media Office of the Islamic parliament, Majlis, Larijani expressed delight over the expanding of friendly ties between both countries, adding that “Iran-Cambodia have broad potentials for strengthening and broadening their friendly ties based on proper planning.” Larijani stressed that Iran considers possession of nuclear weapons as a great threat against world peace and stability, emphasizing, “Iran’s peaceful nuclear program is fully within the framework of the international rules and regulations.” Referring to West’s stand towards the trilateral Tehran agreement, he said, “Such approaches lead to increased distrust in the international scene.” For his part, Hornam Hung praised Iran as a country with a rich culture and an ancient civilization, adding that “expansion of ties with Iran is of great significance for Cambodia.” Referring to the reached agreements in his ongoing visit of Iran, Hung expressed hope that ties between both countries would enter a new phase.
He also declared Cambodia's full support for the righteous Palestinian cause and for Iran’s absolute right to have full access to the entire cycle of the nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
“My country has always opposed the interference of the United States in other countries’ internal affairs,” Hung stressed, criticizing the international community's observed double-standards in dealing with issues of significant importance. (IRNA)
