The Cambodian Agricultural Value Chain Programme says there is potential to increase the Kingdom’s rice harvest by up to 40 percent by 2020 by addressing problems such as seed quality and water supply, officials said yesterday. Speaking at a conference at Raffles Hotel Le Royal yesterday, CAVAC team leader Peter Roggekamp said boosting rice yields would be critical to improving production of the staple crop. Funded by Ausaid, CAVAC intends to focus on agriculture in Kampong Thom, Takeo and Kampot provinces. Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Secretary of State Chan Tong Eav said Cambodia’s transition to commercial farming, required improved seed to boost production and yield. “We are advertising to farmers to change seeds through our development partners,” he said in a speech yesterday.
