King Presides Over National Independence Ceremony
Phnom Penh, November 10, 2010 AKP -- His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni presided over a celebration to mark the 57th anniversary of national independence from France on Tuesday at the Independence Monument in Phnom Penh.
National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and other Cambodian high-ranking officials as well as foreign ambassadors to Cambodia participated in the ceremony with a crowd of Phnom Penh residents and students in attendance.
Senate President Samdech Chea Sim was not at the event due to his health problem.
The king lighted a symbol flame; and dozens of white doves and balloons were released on the occasion. --AKP

PM Hun Sen Receives China Eximbank Director
Phnom Penh, November 10, 2010 AKP -- China Eximbank director has said that Sino-Cambodia cooperation is developing well and the relationship between the Export-Import Bank of China and Cambodia is also progressing considerably.
Speaking at a reception given by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen in Phnom Penh last Saturday, Li Ruogo, Director of the Export-Import Bank of China underlined that some 29 contracts were signed and China Eximbank would continue to support the Royal Government of Cambodia in order to contribute to the development of Cambodia.
Over the past years, the focus was on the development of bridge and road infrastructures but now China Eximbank is paying attention to agriculture sector, seeing that Cambodia considers agriculture one of the main factors for national development, he said.
China Eximbank would encourage and support major Chinese firms by providing credits for the investment or BOT investment in bridge and road and hydrology infrastructures.
For his part, Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked the Government of China and China Eximbank for their assistance and support to Cambodia.
He said China knows Cambodia clearly, especially the Rectangular Strategy of Cambodia, which focuses on agriculture development.
He requested China Eximbank to consider reducing the interest rate on loans Cambodia borrowed for the national development. He also asked major companies from China to promote BOT investment in Cambodia, especially in the railway infrastructure from Phnom Penh to Vietnam. --AKP

PM Hun Sen Receives Minister of Labor, War Invalid and Social Affairs of Vietnam
Phnom Penh, November 10, 2010 AKP -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen received in Phnom Penh Monday a visiting delegation of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalid and Social Affairs of Vietnam, headed by its Minister, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said her delegation visit was to exchange experiences and to develop the cooperation between the Ministry of Labor, War Invalid and Social Affairs of Vietnam and the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training and the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation of Cambodia.
She briefed Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on her delegation’s meetings with the two ministries, particularly the discussions on the cooperation in human resources training and improvement of well-being.
Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen appreciated the cooperation of the three ministries and advised them to cooperate in human resources development in agriculture training.
The following day, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan was also received by National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin. --AKP

Cambodian Athletes Meet DPM Sok An
Phnom Penh, November 10, 2010 AKP -- Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sok An, minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers received here on Nov. 8 Cambodian athletes before leaving for the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou city, China to be held from Nov. 12 to 27.
On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sok An recommended the athletes to respect the disciplines and to do their best to bring success to the nation.
According to H.E. Vath Chamroeun, general secretary of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, the Cambodian team will participate in eight sports events including athletics, swimming, taekwondo, wrestling, volleyball, boxing, tennis and Chinese chess.
More than 11,000 athletes from 45 countries will compete in 42 sports events at the 16th Asian Games. --AKP

Air France To Commence Direct Flights to Phnom Penh from End March 2011
Phnom Penh, November 10, 2010 AKP -- Mr. Arnaud Camus, assistant to the deputy director of Air France, who headed a delegation of 3 members to call on Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sok An here last Friday, said that by Mar. 31, 2011, Air France will land at Phnom Penh International Airport under the company's framework for direct flights between Paris-Phnom Penh.
Secretary of State and the Spokesperson of the Office of the Council of Ministers H.E. Phay Siphan, said that H.E. Sok An, also minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, welcomed Air France's direct flight plan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and he also recommended that Air France continues their discussions on the technical aspects in order to mount direct flights from Paris-Phnom Penh successfully, according to the Press and Quick Reaction Unit of the Council of Ministers.
As scheduled, the direct flight Phnom Penh-Paris of Air France will be officially operated in April 2011 with 3 flights per week with a stopover in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Open Sky Policy laid down by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has been the key impetus for the return of Air France to Cambodia and it is hoped that the flights attract more tourists from Europe, who currently contribute just 20 percent of total tourist arrivals in the Kingdom.
Cambodia is expecting to have more than 2 million tourists in 2010. --AKP

Cambodia On a Quick Rice in UN’s Development Index
Phnom Penh, November 10, 2010 AKP -- Cambodia’s human development is sharply increased in the past two decades if compared to some countries in Asia.
According to a new report released by the International Human Development Indicators, Cambodia is now ranking 123 out of 168 countries in this year’s Human Development Index.
Cambodia was placed in the medium development countries by the UNDP, below neighbor Vietnam.
Last year, Cambodia ranked 137. --AKP

Cambodia-Vietnam Trade Exchanges Increased
Phnom Penh, November 10, 2010 AKP -- The trade exchanges between Cambodia and Vietnam have reached US$1,146.5 million during the first eight months of this year or an increase of 35 percent as compared with the same period of 2009.
Secretary of State for the Ministry of Commerce H.E. Ok Bong made known here on Nov. 6 at the inauguration ceremony of Vietnam-Cambodia Trade Fair.
Addressing the ceremony, H.E. Ok Bong said the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce has tried its best to boost the trade cooperation with the neighboring countries, especially with Vietnam.
Cambodia will continue its effort in seeking more regional and international markets, he added.
The household goods, pharmaceuticals, food and industrial products have been displaying on 270 stands from 236 companies from Nov. 6 to 10 at Koh Pich Island in Phnom Penh. --AKP
