Foreign Minister Dipu Moni will pay a three-day official visit to Cambodia as of December 26 with the aim to bolster diplomatic ties and boost bilateral cooperation.
She will be visiting Cambodian capital Phnom Penh at the invitation of the Deputy Prime Minister HOR Namhong who holds the portfolio of foreign minister in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Official sources said she will pay an audience to King Norodom Sihamoni and hold meetings with Prime Minister Hun Sen, Foreign Minister Hor Namhong, and Agriculture Minister Chan Sarun.
She will also hold talks with Namhong on the entire range of bilateral issues when they are set to prominently figure out trade and investment, cooperation in agriculture, and enhancement of bilateral trade, added the sources.
The Bangladeshi delegation will also tour the Angkor temple complex in Siem Reap province.
The Phnom Penh Post quotes Cambodian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Koy Kuong as saying cooperation on agricultural investment is “clearly a priority” for discussions during her visit.
Officials said bilateral trade between the two countries is very low. In 2009, Cambodia exported goods worth less than US$400,000 to Bangladesh and imported $1.3 million in return.
Cambodia and Bangladesh are competitors in the garment industry, both paying some of the lowest wages in the world. Cambodian workers are paid a minimum wage of $61 per month while Bangladeshi workers earn just $43.
