BANTEAY Meanchey Military Police on Tuesday arrested a garage worker accused of raping a 16-year-old female colleague in Poipet city.

Or Borin, deputy commander of the provincial military police, said there was enough evidence to arrest the suspect, aged 26.

“The suspect said that he was drunk when he raped the girl, so he can’t remember why he raped her,” Or Borin said.

“However, this is not an excuse and the man will have to take the responsibility.”

Provincial military police commander Hom Mot said the victim’s boss had asked her to watch the garage for the night.

“She was the only one who slept in the garage, in a room that wasn’t locked,” he said. “While she was asleep, the suspect raped her. The next morning she told her mother that she had been raped and her mother filed a complaint to the military police.”

The suspect was sent to court yesterday for further questioning.
