President praises Cambodian Party

HA NOI — The ongoing official friendship visit to Viet Nam by Samdec Chea Sim, Chairman of the Cambodian People’s Party and President of the Senate would help develop solidarity, traditional friendship and co-operation between the two countries, said President Nguyen Minh Triet.

While receiving Samdec Chea Sim yesterday, Triet expressed his delight at the development of relations between the two parties, countries and people during the past year.

He said that Viet Nam would continue to be a trustworthy friend and neighbour of Cambodia.

Triet took the occasion to congratulate the Cambodian People’s Party for its victory in the recent election and the establishment of the National Assembly and government for the fourth term.
For his part, Samdec Chea Sim said Cambodia has always attached great importance to friendship and co-operation with Viet Nam.

He briefed Triet of the results of talks with Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh on Tuesday, during which the two sides agreed to lift friendship and comprehensive co-operation between Viet Nam and Cambodia to a new level.

Under the leadership of the Communist Party, Viet Nam’s sound renewal policy has helped the country gain great achievements, Samdec Chea Sim said.

He expressed his belief that the Party, State and people of Viet Nam would fulfil targets set by the 10th Party Congress.

On the same day, Samdec Chea Sim met with National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong.

Trong praised the achievements made by the Cambodian people under the leadership of the Cambodian People’s Party over the past few years, particularly the Party’s important victory in the July general election.

He said regular exchange of visits by high-ranking officials between the two countries would create opportunities for the two sides to share experience in national construction and development as well as to boost the development of bilateral ties.

The NA chairman expressed his wish to enhance exchanges and co-operation between the two legislative bodies of Viet Nam and Cambodia.

Samdec Chea Sim said his visit to Viet Nam was aimed at furthering relations between the two parties, countries and people, particularly between the two national assemblies.

He spoke highly of the role of the NA in encouraging governments of the two countries to effectively implement agreements signed by both sides for the benefits of the people of each country.

He expressed his wish that relations between the two national assemblies would be further developed, helping to boost the development of the solidarity, friendship and comprehensive co-operation between the two parties and countries. — VNS
