Japan Grants Labs, School Building to Cambodia

The government of Japan has granted 217,346 U.S. dollars worth of laboratories and school building to Cambodia, said official news agency the Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP) on Wednesday.

The grant was made in Phnom Penh on Tuesday under Japan's economic cooperation framework, or the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, it said.

Out of the total grant, 170,354 U.S. dollars will be used to build scientific laboratories at the Hun Sen Kandal Regional Teacher Training Center in Kandal province and the Takeo Regional Teacher Training Center in Takeo province.

The rest will be used to construct a school building at the Raksmey Angkanh Primary School in Kampong Thom province.

According to the Japanese Embassy, since 1991, Japan has extended more than 42.5 million U.S. dollars to support 425 projects in the fields of education, agriculture, rural development, health and mine clearance in Cambodia.
