WOMAN TAKES POISON TO AVOID MARRIAGE
Naem Phalla, 20, from Ang village in Kampong Chhnang province, was admitted to hospital on Monday after she ingested poison. Her parents said she ate the unidentified poison because she wanted to escape marrying a man to whom she was engaged but she did not like.

GANG OF GAMBLERS BUSTED IN KANDAL
Several men were arrested Sunday by Ang Snuol police in Lech Wat village, Kandal province for gambling on fighting cocks. Police arrested nine men and confiscated five cocks. The men were later released after being educated by police to mend their evil ways.

MAN BUSTED FOR DEALING, USING DRUGS
Prampi Makara district police on Saturday arrested Hea Siemmeng, 31, on a warrant issued by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of dealing and using drugs. Police found eight plastic bags of unidentified powder in the suspect's home in Prolit commune. Hea Siemmeng was to appear in court on Monday.

WOMEN BRAWL IN DAUN PENH
A fight between two women in Daun Penh district near Wat Phnom in Phnom Penh on Saturday resulted in severe head wounds for one and the arrest of the other. The injured was identified by police as Lean Thavy, 20, from Sreah Chak commune, and the detained was identified as Duk Sreymom, 28. Witnesses said the two women were cursing each other prior to the fight, but the cause of the conflict remains unknown.

MAN RUNS INTO RADIO, POLICE SAY
Eung Huort, 27, from Chamkarmon district, Phnom Penh, was paid US$300 in compensation after sustaining head wounds on Monday from the radio of a traffic police officer on Nehru Boulevard in Tuol Kork district. The victim said one of the officers beat him with the radio, but the officer said the man was injured when he tried to evade traffic police because he was speeding on his motorbike and not wearing a helmet, and injured himself by running into the radio.
