PM Dung holds talks with Asian senior leaders

On the sidelines of the ASEAN-RoK Commemorative Summit held on Jeju island from June 1-2, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak.

At the meeting with the Indonesian President, PM Dung congratulated him on his party’s success in the recent parliamentary election.

The two leaders praised the positive development of bilateral relations in recent times and agreed to further strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation in politics, economics, trade, investment, diplomacy, national defense and security, for the two countries’ benefit and for the sake of peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

Mr Dung thanked Indonesia for its efforts in resolving the case of 251 Vietnamese fishermen who were arrested by Indonesia and expressed his hope that both sides would continue to tackle issues that may arise in the spirit of friendship.

Both pledged to work closely with the relevant agencies to build a mechanism for resolving fishing issues and carrying out a joint patrol in overlapping and adjoining sea areas as a step towards the early signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on fishing cooperation and further negotiations on bilateral cooperation in sea-related issues

During the meeting with his Malaysian counterpart Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak, Mr Dung congratulated him on his re-election as the new Malaysia PM and expressed his belief that Malaysia will successfully implement “vision 2020” in order to become a leading developed country in the region.
The two PMs expressed their delight at the current relations between the two countries, which is developing well and firmly, and agreed to further strengthen the ties of friendship and co-operation, especially in economics and trade and to encourage Malaysian businesses to develop large-scale industrial zones in Vietnam. They were also pleased with the effective co-operation in handling issues related to the East Sea and agreed to authorize relevant ministries and departments to discuss joint patrols, fishing activities in the East Sea and the development of suitable mechanisms for dealing with Vietnamese fishermen who intentionally fish in Malaysian water.

Mr Dung invited PM Dato Sri Najib Tun Razak to visit Vietnam and he accepted the invitation with pleasure.

At the meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, PM Dung congratulated People's Revolutionary Party on its success during the recent election. He also expressed his delight at the growing ties between the two countries and affirmed Vietnam’s willingness to further develop these ties for mutual benefit.

PM Hun Sen thanked Vietnam for selling electricity at a stable price considering it as effective mechanism for Cambodia overcome its current difficulties. The two PMS agreed to encourage and create favourable conditions for businesses from the two countries to expand co-operation in hydro-electricity, mining, information technology and rubber plantation. PM Dung affirmed that Vietnam will help Cambodia restore and develop the national aviation sector. The two PMs agreed to accelerate and complete land border demarcation as scheduled.
