Young Cambodian star Ek Chamroeun serves during his men's doubles quarterfinals match at the Cambodian Country Club (CCC) Thursday. The 14-year-old prodigy partnered by 16-year-old Orn Sambath lost 6-1, 6-1 to an older and more experienced Vietnamese pairing. Earlier in the week, Ek Chamrouen had taken the U18 competition by storm, dropping just three games in four matches on the way to claiming the title. And the inspirational youngster wasn't done there, winning his men's singles quarterfinal against high-ranked French player Christophe Forsinetti 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. How this little wonder has improved his game and power by so much in just a few months is a true testament to the commitment and hard work of the Cambodian Tennis Federation (TFC), whose General Secretary Tep Rithivit had sponsored him to attend a training camp in France. Ek Chamrouen plays his semifinal match against a Vietnamese opponent Saturday, and a victory to advance to Sunday's final would send the TFC into ecstasy. The men's final starts at 10am Sunday at the CCC, and the TFC welcomes all spectators free of charge to watch the games.
