ANLONG VENG beauty SPARKS TEEN BRAWL
Two groups of gangsters fought and stabbed each other Friday night at a venue in Oddar Meanchey province’s Anlong Veng district, leaving two men severely injured and two in police custody. Deputy Chief Ke Samnang of the Anlong Veng district police said the two groups argued at a venue on National Road 67, the imbroglio caused after youths from the two gangs fought for the affections of one girl they loved.

SEX WORKERS TO BE RE-EDUCATED: POLICE
Tuol Kork district police apprehended 10 sex workers on Thursday night and sent them to the municipal Social Affairs Department for re-education. Police said sex workers must be removed from main streets to ensure public order and protect the good tradition and culture for which Cambodia is reputed. Local residents, however, say that the presence of sex workers has increased in public areas during the nighttime.

GRANDMA WIELDS WHIP, ENDS DANCE
A 19-year-old woman was sent to Kampong Chhnang provincial hospital for medical treatment after she poisoned herself with pills on Friday morning because she was angry with her grandmother, who did not allow her to enjoy traditional dancing in Kampong Chhnang town. While the woman was happily dancing among her friends, her grandmother appeared with a whip and demanded that she return home. The girl refused, but her grandmother chased her and beat her with the whip, embarrassing her in front of the other dancers. The girl was later discovered by her younger sister and mother, who took her to the hospital.

KRATIE KIDNAPPERS IN PROVINCE POKEY
Kratie provincial policemen arrested three males on Saturday who are accused of kidnapping a 5-year-old boy from Phnom Penh and extorting US$3,000 from his parents. The three accused, aged between 17 and 25 years, confessed before police that they had picked up the boy and transported him to Kratie’s Ang Snuol district.

FAMILY MEMBERS OUT LOCAL RAPIST
Phnom Penh police arrested a man from Meanchey district on Friday who is accused of raping his daughter. The daughter was initially afraid to bring the complaint to police, but her younger sister persuaded her to tell their aunt, a vendor at the Water Festival, who then contacted the authorities.
