CHEF SERVED WITH PLATE OF REVENGE
A 22-year-old chef in Phnom Penh was sent to hospital Saturday after a vicious attack that left a knife lodged inside his left eye socket. The victim was stabbed at the Daun Penh district restaurant where he worked by two assailants, who zipped up on a motorbike Saturday afternoon. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, but friends of the victim speculated that it might have been revenge, as the man had previously been in a rocky relationship.

RANCOROUS GUNMAN MURDERS WAITER
A 31-year-old waiter was shot dead by three gunmen in Prampi Makara district Saturday. According to witnesses, the victim was walking home alone at 2am when one of the suspects shot him in the chest. The suspects drove away on two waiting motorbikes. After inspecting the man’s body, police concluded the motive for the killing was rancour, not robbery. Police are investigating the case to bring the assailants to justice.

POLICEMAN ARRESTED AFTER MONTHS ON RUN
A military policeman in Preah Sihanouk province’s Sihanoukville accused of raping a 13-year-old girl was arrested last Tuesday after being on the lam for months. The 41-year-old suspect was accused by the victim’s mother of violating her daughter on August 9. According to the mother, the suspect and the victim’s father were drinking together before the attack occurred. The accused is being held at the provincial prison and is awaiting a court date.

DRUG USERS FACE EDUCATION SCHEME
Fifteen people who use drugs were arrested in Phnom Penh’s Chamkarmon district Saturday after they were accused of using drugs in a public space. Police said they found drug paraphernalia among the group of 11 men and four women. Police said the drug users were educated about the bad effects of using drugs. They will be soon be sent to “related organisations and departments”.

TEENAGER DRAGGED INTO RICE MACHINE
An 18-year-old girl died instantly after she was dragged into a rice-processing machine while helping her parents harvest rice at the weekend. It happened Saturday in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district when the victim was helping her family to hoist bundles of rice into the machine in the middle of a rice field. A scarf she had wrapped around her head got caught in the machine and dragged her in. Her parents were unable to save her. Neighbours believe the accident occurred because the victim was careless.
