Those wanting to help needy children by volunteering in Cambodia may wish to follow in the footsteps of one young woman from Wiltshire.
Rachel White, a resident of Swindon, is to spend three months in the Asian country supporting its poorest children, especially those who have been orphaned or are living on the streets.
Cambodia Kids is a project which runs a day centre for children, an orphanage and a free education programme for youngsters and Ms White will be involved in one of these when she flies out to the country at the end of January.
The 25-year-old, who has previously embarked on a gap year in Australia, told ThisisWiltshire.co.uk: "It’s a completely different world out there and I hope I can make a difference."
Cambodia is currently one of the poorest nations in the world and heavily relies on humanitarian work and international aid.
The Guardian recently reported that Cambodia is now a hugely-popular destination for people who are taking part in gap year travel, offering less of the tourist trappings associated with Vietnam and Thailand.
