A 1-year-old baby died and nine people were severely injured after a traffic accident in Kampong Speu province Wednesday, police said. Investigators say the driver of the car was intoxicated. The group was making its way home after a party when the car crashed into a large tree on the side of the road and tumbled into a nearby field. Police said they felt sorry that the baby died in the crash, and that the nine other passengers were hospitalised. The car’s occupants reported that they urged the driver not to get behind the wheel.

BABY STILL ILL; MAN SWALLOWS POISON
Police in Banteay Meanchey province have reported that a 27-year-old man killed himself after he became infuriated that a local doctor could not cure his son’s illness. The man apparently swallowed poison Wednesday, according to police, who say they are confident that the man took his own life and was in no way a victim of a crime. The man’s wife said their son had been ill for more than a week. The couple had sent the child to the hospital, but it appeared that he was not getting well. The wife said her husband often got drunk, sparking fits of anger aimed at the entire family.
