Huawei signs US$200-mln deal with Cambodian carrier

Mar. 22, 2010 (China Knowledge) - Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, the world's second-largest telecom equipment maker, on Mar. 18 signed a US$200-million deal with Cambodia's MobiTel, Reuters reported.

Under the deal, Huawei will provide services and equipment to Cambodia's biggest mobile phone operator to help it expand its network coverage.

The deal was signed during a three-day visit to Cambodia by Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Hui Liangyu, according to the report.

MobiTel is a US$120-million joint venture between Millicom International Cellular S.A. and Cambodia's The Royal Group. It has a user base of 2.5 million, accounting for 67% of the country's total telecom subscribers.

Huawei earlier said its 2009 sales revenue rose 26.5% year on year to US$17 billion. Sales in the domestic market hit a record US$10 billion in 2009. The firm's overseas sales accounted for 53.5% of its total last year, down from 75% in 2008.

The Shenzhen-based company's contracted sales could grow 20% to US$36 billion in 2010, China Knowledge reported earlier.
