GIVE MEN APPLAUSE

The You’re the Man! TV show hit Siem Reap yesterday, and the search for a Cambodian hunk will continue until Sunday at the Angkor Gyeongju park.

Times for the show are: today (July 16) and tomorrow 9am-6pm; and Sunday July 18 from 9am-10pm.

The challenge is a nationwide, road-show competition that pits Cambodians against each other for the title of “The Man”.

Ten Siem Reap blokes will be selected to compete in challenges that will test physical and mental capabilities, as well as personality. At the end of each day-long challenge, three men will be selected to travel to Phnom Penh to compete in the grand finale, which will be held and shot live at the TV3 studio in September.

Accordingly, there will also be a film crew who will film and document the competition, which will be aired on TV3 each Wednesday at 8:30pm.

The contest’s conditions include: “Applicants are strongly encouraged to have had an HIV test (no more than six months should have passed since last test). We encourage both HIV-positive and HIV-negative men to join.”

DINNER WELL DONE

A gala dinner in support of Cambodia’s Children, run by Friends Without a Border on behalf of the Angkor Hospital for Children, was a staggering success.

The dinner, held at the quirky Cambodian Cultural Village on Saturday night, proved that Siem Reap NGOs can step up to the entrepreneurial plate when in times of international donor drought.

About 650 people attended the dinner, resulting in almost $25,000 going to the hospital.

Guests were entertained by a circus show and clowns, live auctions, raffles and singing by such high-profile Khmer performers as Meng Keopichda, Noy Vannet, Sos Mach, Ienh Sithol, Chhoeun Udom and DK Klang.

COOL POOLS ARE HOT

Hotel pools are becoming a hot ticket item in Siem Reap. Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor’s pool recently featured on MSN Travel’s Sixteen Spectacular Swimming Pools, listed as “the Kingdom’s largest pool”.

This week Victoria Angkor Resort and Spa also took the unusual step of sending out invites for the reopening of its renovated pool on Saturday July 17.
