TEHRAN (FNA)- Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hor Namhong on Tuesday underlined his country's strong opposition to the UN Security Council and western sanctions against Iran.

Speaking at a press conference after a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here in Tehran today, Namhong stressed that Cambodia condemns sanctions as it believes that the measure is not a proper option for resolving international problems.

"The sanction-based policies are condemned everywhere, and just a positive and constructive policy can solve the problems," the minister said in response to a question about Cambodia's stance on the sanctions imposed on Iran by the West and the UN Security Council.

He further noted the agenda of his talks with the Iranian foreign minister, and said that they conferred on regional and international issues.

"We talked about the situation in Iraq, the Palestinian issue, and the status quo in Afghanistan. We agreed that problems in these countries could not be resolved through war," Namhong noted.

"During the talks, we underlined further deepening and bolstering of bilateral ties," the minister said, and mentioned that he had extended an invitation to Mottaki to pay a visit to Phnom Penn in the near future.
