TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Accredited Ambassador to Cambodia Seyed Javad Qavam Shahidi hailed the recent agreements made between Tehran and Phnom Penh, and stressed Cambodia's key role in linking Iran and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Speaking to FNA about the outcomes of the recent visit to Tehran by Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hor Namhong, Qavam Shahidi pointed to Cambodia's membership in the ASEAN, and added, "Cambodia can play a key role in connecting Iran and the association."

The Iranian diplomat also said that Cambodian foreign minister's visit to Iran yielded "good achievements".

"During the visit, grounds were prepared for massive cooperation in trade, economic, technical, engineering, and energy fields, including oil and gas," Qavam Shahidi noted.

"The Cambodian side also welcomed an increase in the level of ties and exchanges between the two countries' officials and also welcomed presence of Iran's technical and engineering experts in the (South Asian) country," the Iranian diplomat went on saying.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki announced last Tuesday that Iran and Cambodia plan to further boost their political, economic and diplomatic cooperation.

"As regards trade, we agreed to bring Tehran-Phnom Penn relations into a new era through holding national fairs in each other's countries, active participation in the two countries' international fairs, and reciprocal meetings between the two counties' chambers of commerce and ministries of commerce," Mottaki stated, speaking at a press conference after his meeting with Namhong here in Tehran last week.

Mottaki said that he and his Cambodian counterpart had also agreed to work on tourism as a main agenda for the expansion of ties.
