THREE Cambodian handicraft producers have been chosen to exhibit their wares in South Korea from September 9 to 12, with an eye to boosting future exports of the Kingdom’s handicrafts, Ministry of Commerce officials said yesterday.

The Kingdom has chosen to debut handicrafts from two private companies, Sentosa Silk and Neang Milss, as well as wares from Watthan Artisans, a nongovernmental organisation.

The items the organisation’s produce, which include furniture, scarves, clothes and handbags, will be showcased at the Seoul Gift Show and would test Korean markets, the ministry’s Trade Promotion deputy chief Ouch Savin said.

“If Korean people like our products, they will sign contracts with us, bringing more of our products to Korea,” he said.

Korean production costs were very high, he said, and the country was looking to increase its imports from lower-cost countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, including Cambodia.

Experts gave a presentation about Korean consumer preferences to representatives of 21 companies in Phnom Penh on Friday, he said, as Cambodian exports must be ready to face stiff competition in the market.
