Cambodia's air passengers expects to rise 10 pct next year

PHNOM PENH, Oct 27, 2010 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Passengers through Cambodia's Phnom Penh and Siem Reap International Airports are expected to increase by more than 10 percent in 2011.

Nicolas Deviller, the chief executive officer of the airports management firm Socit Concessionaire Des Aroports (SCA), said at a press conference on the Winter Season Flights Schedule in Phnom Penh on Wednesday that the foreign passengers through the Phnom Penh International Airport could increase by 10 percent and through the Siem Reap international airport could rise by 13 percent in 2011.

"We also forecast that there will be 7 percent increased in the plane movements next year through the airports," he said.

"The trend is very positive and flight increases will increase the capacity flying in and out of Cambodia", he said.

According to the Winter Season Flights Schedule from the end of October (this year) to the end of March next year, three airlines would add their new weekly flights.

Cambodia Angkor Air would add seven weekly flights between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, AirAsia is to add seven weekly flights between Phnom Penh and Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok Airways adds one daily flight to Bangkok.

Nicolas Deviller said that it's likely to see more passengers from China, South Korea and Japan and maybe more tourists from India.

He said that there is still no regular flight between Phnom Penh or Siem Reap airports to Sihanoukville Airport.
