VLADIVOSTOK, December 19 (Itar-Tass) -- The Cambodia-flagged Sunrise vessel with a Russian crew is in distress in the Sea of Japan (the East Sea), a source at the Russian Maritime Rescue Center told Itar-Tass.
The vessel was carrying 1,967 cubic meters of wood from Nakhodka to Japan. Presumably, it had a collision with a North Korean fishing vessel 240 miles south of Vladivostok at night and got a hole in the hull. Seawater started to come inside.
Another Cambodia-flagged ship, the Orient Wind, hurried to the Sunrise’ s rescue and took aboard twelve sailors. Five crewmembers, including the captain, are staying aboard the Sunrise. The vessel is slowly moving towards the South Korean seaport of Donghae. It is due to arrive in Donghae by 7:00 p.m. Moscow time.
