VCDs of footage filmed during last month’s stampede on Diamond Island bridge that left 353 dead and 393 injured, are being sold in Cambodia and the United States, vendors and viewers said yesterday.

The film features about an hour of footage cobbled together from local and international broadcasts of the incident and its aftermath, including scenes from the rescue efforts, relatives searching for loved ones, and a mourning ceremony attended by Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Mao Maneth, a disc seller in Tuol Kork district, said she yesterday that she bought the discs from wholesalers near the Olympic Market and was selling at least 5 per day.

Soam Sophy, whose daughter died in the incident, said the discs were insensitive and noted that there were better ways of remembering the tragedy.

“The distribution of these discs should not be done because it could affect peoples’ feelings.”
