A CONSTRUCTION project director is taking time out from his day job to build homes for Cambodian families.

Kanji Kerai, from Willmott Dixon in Cardiff, is travelling to the village of Siem Reap, where work is under way to create new homes for 100 families.

The working sabbatical from his usual role of managing major projects for Willmott Dixon was inspired by a vacation to the Siem Reap region to visit the ancient temple ruins of the Khmer Empire.

While there, he toured the area and saw the harsh conditions in which the families in the village live.

“It was evident that these people really needed assistance and that a little effort on the part of people like me could make a very real difference to their lives,” he said.

“I got in contact with the British charity Que Rico, which is working to build simple one-room timber houses to help regenerate the village and determined to make the trip as soon as work commitments allowed.”
