Police officials in Pursat province said today that a woman working at the Sereyroth karaoke parlour in Pursat town was injured on Sunday during an altercation with 24 Chinese employees of a hydroelectric company.

Mo Lyda, head of Pursat provincial police’s minor penal bureau, said the workers had been drinking at the karaoke parlour before accosting the employee to have sex with them.

When she refused, the workers became enraged and one of them attacked her.

The employee fought back, according to Mo Lyda, striking one of her attackers in the head with a plastic chair and stabbing another man in the waist with a knife.

The stabbing prompted the worker to demand US$250 in compensation for the injury, Mo Lyda said.

The owner of the karaoke parlour and the victim then fled the premises out of fear of further violence.

In their absence, the workers began to destroy furnishings and property within the parlour.

The victim said today that she had dropped the charges against the workers in exchange for the payment of $5,000 in compensation.

She added that “if he hadn’t hit her, she wouldn’t have cut him”.
