Pianist and composer Arne Sahlen is returning to Chemainus for a short fundraising Concert for Cambodia Saturday, Feb. 21.

Ticket sales will support culturally-sensitive, post-war restoration work in Cambodia, through the Cambodia Support Group (CSG), a registered charity based in Kimberley, B.C.

Chemainus's United Church is helping to promote the event.

With him, Sahlen will bring Cambodian tenor Chanthavouth and young B.C. guitarist Dylan Matheson.

Sahlen has appeared three times before in Chemainus and his shows are well-attended.

The piano music will range from jazz and ragtime to classical. "Vouth" will offer both Broadway songs and operatic arias. There will be an opportunity to meet the performers and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea at 11 a.m., after the short concert.

As is often the case with other performers, Sahlen's visit to Chemainus comes between a concert in Victoria and one in Vancouver.

CSG assists KAVTV, a Cambodian training school for Cambodians with disabilities and/or land mine injuries. They also sponsor several young people from very poor rural families for secondary/ post-secondary education in Cambodia, in partnership with Khmer Women's Voice Centre.

Tickets for the event are $10 for adults and $5 for anyone under 16. Get them at British Allsorts or through Shelagh Armour-Godbolt at 250-246-9102 or shelaghag@shaw.ca

Tickets will also be available at the door of Chemainus United Church, after 9:30 a.m. on concert day.
