PASIR PUTEH, May 25 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency detained a Cambodian registered cargo ship for plying with an expired licence and not equip with safety equipments, today.
Its district operation director, Commander Rozali Mohd Said said the captain and crew of the ship would be handed to the Marine Department for further action.
The licence of the ship expired in March 2007 but it had been taking five shipments of palm oil from Teluk Bali port here to Cambodia for the past three years, he told reporters here today.
He said the ship would face RM1,000 fine under Sections 474(1), 474 (2) and 483(1) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952.
As the ship is not equip to fight oil spill, it could pose a danger to the country's maritime, he said, adding that, it would not be allowed to sail until it complied with the requirements.

And rightly so, if there was an accident the ship is not equipped to fight an oil spill - simply not good enough. I wonder why it took so long to catch them.
