PHNOM PENH, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia and South Korea reached an agreement here on the sister cities affiliation between the Municipality of Phnom Penh and the Busan Metropolitan City for mutual cooperation exchange, local media reported on Friday.

The agreement was inked by Phnom Penh Governor Kep Chuktema and Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik on Thursday, according to the official Agence kampuchea Presse (AKP).

On the occasion, Kep Chuktema said that this alliance is very important to further strengthen the ties of friendship between the two countries, through the cooperation exchange in the fields of administration, economy, tourism, culture and education between Phnom Penh and Busan.

Busan is the second city that tied alliance with Phnom Penh Municipality. In late March 2009, Phnom Penh and South Korea's Incheon Metropolitan City also signed the sister cities affiliation.

On the same day, the visiting South Korean delegation led by Hur Nam-sik also met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in Charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers Sok An to seek his support for the direct flights between Busan and Siem Reap.

In response, Sok An warmly welcomed the proposition and encouraged South Korean side to work with the Civil Aviation General Secretariat to reach the agreement.
