Singapore - A Singapore court Thursday sentenced a Cambodian management student to three months in jail for outraging the modesty of two women, media reports said. Chhuon Ratana, 20, had pleaded guilty to squeezing the breasts of two women at a club in Singapore's popular nightlife area Clarke Quay in May last year.

Although both victims had received compensation of 8,000 Singapore dollars (5,500 US dollars) each, the judge said a short term in jail would teach the student not to break the law again, the online edition of the Straits Times newspaper reported.

Chhuon's lawyer argued that a punishment in Singapore would be inexpedient, as his elders back home would impose a penalty on him according to traditional Cambodian practices, which would include the 20-year-old becoming a monk for six months to a year.

But the judge felt that the student should be punished for his behaviour by a Singapore court, the report said.
