Sunday’s CPL games offered little of interest, with Spark FC and Preah Khan Reach victorious

SPARK FC eased their way to a relatively comfortable victory over Post Tel Club in Sunday's first match. An uneventful first half was momentarily jolted into life in the 23rd minute when Peter Olatide volleyed his side into the lead. With Post Tel's defence failing to clear their lines from a corner, the ball fell kindly for Olatide, and the Nigerian centre-half made no mistake from 12 yards out.

That was as good as it got in the opening period, although Post Tel twice went close to leveling. Kuoch Sokheng jinked inside two defenders but sent his shot wide, and then Phany Chamroeun saw his header well-saved by Pouv Raksa.

If the first half was uneventful, the second bordered on nonevent. Literally the only incident of note came with just five minutes of play remaining, when Spark's Justine Prince burst into the box and was felled by Soth Sotheary. The club's top scorer dusted himself off and sent the keeper the wrong way from the penalty to seal victory.

BBU 0 Preah Khan Reach 1
It was more a case of Preah Can't in Sunday's second CPL game, as the league leaders stumbled to victory over Build Bright United (BBU) in an uninspiring game.

The first half failed to live up to expectations, although BBU's Adeseye Ogunsano went close after just three minutes with a rising drive that only just cleared the crossbar. Chhun Sothearoth also had a decent effort for BBU, with a diving header that was goalbound only to be deflected wide for a corner.

At the other end, it took Preah Khan Reach (PKR) until injury time in the first half to register a decent effort. Prak Monyoudom struck a decent free-kick from out wide that BBU Keeper Chea Zena did well to turn over the bar.

Defences were also on top in the second half, particularly BBU's In Virak, who put in a great block when PKR's Kok Sinuon looked certain to score. The chances were not exactly flowing, and a great opportunity in the 72nd minute was blown by PKR when Khuonla Boravy's poor penalty was turned away by Chea Zena.

However, with just a minute left in the game, Khuonla Boravy made amends by winning his side another penalty, and this time national team star Samel Nasa made no mistake from the spot.
