SINGAPORE - Phnom Penh Crown's chance of moving on to the semifinals of this year's Singapore Cup now hangs in the balance after the team suffered a 2-1 loss to Bangkok Glass in Wednesday's first leg. Crown made a flying start when Chan Chhaya opened scoring inside nine minutes. The Cambodian flag-bearers kept hold of the lead until the 40th minute, when Glass equalised through Chatree Chimtale. Both sides came out in the second half looking for the winner, with Crown bringing on Lor Pichseila for Ek Sovannara, while the Thai side responded by making double changes. It was the Thai side that made the most of the tactical changes, with substitute Mathee Pungpo producing the winning goal in the 53rd minute. Crown now need to win the second leg next Wednesday in Singapore to advance to the next round.

KAMPONG CHHNANG - Cambodian National Baseball League team the Braves came back to within a game of the Royals with a 5-4 victory Wednesday. The Braves grabbed a big lead early in the game, scoring four runs in the fourth inning, but allowed the Royals to pull back level with four runs in the seventh. The rain-soaked game, which lasted more than seven grueling hours due to several stoppages, was finally decided when Eng Rith scored the game-winning run for the Braves in the ninth. The teams take a rest day today, but will train all day with coaches. Earlier in the week, the Braves blasted past the Royals 6-1 Monday, before Tuesday's game saw a stunning 7-0 demolition by the Royals over the Braves. Local spectators at Baribo ballpark, Kampong Chhnang province, give vocal support to their home team, the Braves, who currently trail their Eastern counterparts 5-4 in games. The Braves will hope to use this home advantage to draw level in the series with a win on Friday. Midweek transfers have seen the Royals sign two rookies, while the Braves have re-signed three former national players. Som Vijet leads the Royals batting line, with two home runs and an average of .374, while Eng Rith heads the Braves with his .346 average and seven RBIs. The Cambodian Baseball Federation, meanwhile, is concerned over lack of funds, and appeals to any willing sponsors to help supply food and drink to the teams.
