The Cambodian Foreign Affair and International Cooperation Ministry (MFA) will provide a diplomatic action to Thailand over a killing of one Cambodian citizen on August 11, 2009, a spokesman for the ministry told DAP News Cambodia on Monday. The body of the man was returned burned.
Cambodian MFA Spokesperson Koy Kuong on Monday said the ministry would send a diplomatic note to Thailand and ask why Thai soldiers committed such brutal acts against the two innocent Cambodians. “This is a very bad event and a cruel act by Thai soldiers, just like what had happened in the Pol Pot regime. And I have realized why brutal acts happened and continue to exist in the south of Thailand,” he said. “The acts of Thai soldiers can be considered as inhuman actions.”
One Cambodian man, Yun Rith, 16, was apparently killed by burning after being seriously injured by gunfire. Another Cambodian was seriously injured by Thai soldiers, after they confronted Cambodian citizens who had illegally crossed into Thai territory on August 11.
The acts of Thai soldiers are very different from Cambodian ones, such as on April 3, 2009, when Cambodian soldiers took 10 Thai hostages who surrender after trying to run away from a battle field at Preah Vihear. The Thais were returned unharmed.
