SUSPECTED KILLER TELLS COPS A TALE
A man accused of beating his wife to death tried to convince police that his wife had actually died from a severe bout of diarrhoea, investigators in Ratanakkiri province said. The suspect showed up last Tuesday at the Andong Meas district police station and claimed his wife had died of natural causes. But after visiting the couple’s home, police believe the suspect beat his wife to death with a large stick. Neighbours told police that the suspect said he would kill his wife “one day”.

FEMALE GANGSTER FACES CHARGES
A “woman gangster” accused of getting so drunk that she knocked a policeman unconcious with her car before being foiled in an escape attempt could face a litany of charges, police in Battambang said. Police say the woman ran over a policeman Thursday before another officer apprehended her when she tried to drive off.

VILLAGER THWART ALLEGED ASSAULT
A 23-year-old man was arrested after he was accused of attempting to rape a woman Thursday in a corn field in Pailin province’s O’Reang Ouv district. Police say the suspect confessed that he wanted to have sex with the woman because he saw her standing alone in the field. Police say the man started to embrace the victim from behind. But when the woman screamed, her parents and other villages ran to her aid.

GIRL, 15, ACCUSED OF STABBING TAXI MAN
A 15-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of stabbing a motorbike taxi driver in a violent attempt to steal his motorbike, Pailin province police said. The victim said the girl had asked him to drive her to a secluded mountain area. When they stopped, however, she stabbed him with a knife and tried to steal his motorbike, he said. Villagers came to the man’s aid after he yelled for help.

POLICE SEEK AID FOR HOMESICK WOMAN
A Vietnamese woman tried to kill herself Friday by jumping off the Preah Monivong Bridge in Phnom Penh’s Meanchey district, police said. The woman, 53, told police her friends had abandoned her after convincing her to come work in Cambodia. The woman said she wanted to kill herself because she was broke and could not afford to return to Vietnam. Police have sought the assistance of Phnom Penh’s Vietnamese community to help the woman return home.
