The Appeal Court in Phnom Penh postponed Monday’s scheduled hearing in the case of a 64-year-old Frenchman accused of committing indecent acts with minors, the victims’ lawyer said.The hearing would have examined whether a judge in Preah Sihanouk province, Kim Eng, wrongfully dropped allegations against the suspect, and allowed him to flee to France before the prosecution could appeal. Nuon Panith, a lawyer provided by anti-paedophile NGO Action Pour Les Enfants (APLE), said he was told that the hearing would be put off indefinitely, in part because of a lack of judges. Jean Claude Camille was arrested in a Sihanoukville guesthouse in February after being found with two sisters ages 8 and 13. When Preah Sihanouk provincial court held an investigative session on June 16, one of the girls testified that no indecent acts had occured. Kim Eng moved to drop the charges, citing her testimony and saying APLE’s work on the case was flawed.
