KHON KAEN, Thailand – Thai star Thongchai Jaidee plans to complete a career milestone by claiming his third Asian Tour title of the season at the King’s Cup starting today. With a record third Order of Merit title safely in his grasp, Thongchai is determined to end the year on a winning note at the US$300,000 event, which is his final tournament of the Asian Tour season.

SOUTHERN Gold said Wednesday it had begun some drilling operations for the 2009-10 season as it continues to explore for gold and base metals at its Cambodia concessions. The Australian miner added that drilling will “commence shortly” at Kratie North and South JV sites, and that results will begin coming in next month.

World Bank training

A WORLD Bank-supported two-day programme to train 40 government officials concluded in Phnom Penh on Wednesday. The programme aimed to build understanding about trade facilitation and state concessions. “We hope that the training session will help improve knowledge of all attending officials,” said Suon Sithy, secretary general of the Cambodian Investment Committee, whose officials took part.

CANADA’S SNC-Lavalin announced Tuesday it has been awarded a contract to design and build a US$5 million energy management system for Electricite du Cambodge in Phnom Penh. “This system will help provide electricity to a large portion of Cambodia's rural population,” a company statement said. Montreal-based SNC-Lavalin expects the project to go online by June 2011.
