A FRANCHISE of the international car rental company Europcar will be launched in Cambodia this April, it was revealed Wednesday.
RM Asia Group (RMA) will operate a branch of the vehicle rental business later this year after it agreed to run the Europcar franchise in late 2009.
Rami Sharaf, group country manager of RMA Cambodia, which already distributes Ford vehicles in the Kingdom, said: “This will be the first international standard and reliable car rental business in Cambodia. Tourists will find it easier to rent cars to explore the country.”
He said the franchise would be launched with about 50 cars, which could be hired either short- and long-term, with or without drivers. If the market fulfills its potential, RMA will invest further, Sharaf added.
The company decided to operate a car rental franchise because of an increasing demand for transport.
“Car rental may not interest local people because they own their cars. But it will interest tourists, nongovernmental organisations, embassies, and private companies,” the group country manager added.
Rami Sharaf said that RMA hopes to cooperate with large hotels to boost business.
Europcar, which is owned by the French investment company Eurazeo, is the European leader in passenger car and light utility vehicle rentals and operates on every continent.
Excluding data from its franchise operations, in 2008 Europcar signed more than 10 million rental contracts.
In September 2008, Europcar and US market leader Enterprise Rent-A-Car agreed on an alliance to form the world’s largest car rental network.
