THE Cambodian government will give prize money Friday at the National Institute of Education to successful athletes who claimed medals at the 25th SEA Games in Vientiane. Cambodia sent 132 athletes in 19 sports disciplines to the biannual competition, held last year from December 9-18 in the Laos capital. A total of 40 medals were won - 3 golds, 10 silvers and 27 bronzes – with some athletes grabbing more than one each while others shared a medal for team events. According to Vath Chamroeun, General Secretary of National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, the cash rewards are given in accordance with a government sub-decree which states that each gold medallist will receive 24 million riels (US$5,770), silver medallists get 16 millions riels and bronzes earn 8 millions riel. Coaches also receive cash prizes equivalent to that of the highest medal won by their competitors, and the assistant coaches are granted 70 percent of the coach’s reward.
