FEMALE CAR-RENTER SENTENCED TO JAIL
Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Tuesday sentenced a woman to two years in prison after finding her guilty of renting a car and not returning it. Khoeun Ry, 30, promised to give US$300 per month to the owner, but then rented it on to a man for $500 per month. However, when the owner wanted the car back, Khoeun Ry could not return it because it was never returned to her. The accused was ordered to pay $8,000 in compensation to the owner.

KCHAM MAN DIES IN MOTORBIKE
One man died and three people were seriously injured after a collision involving two motorbikes in Kampong Cham on Tuesday night. Traffic police said one bike carrying two passengers tried to overtake a car on National Road 7 when it hit the other bike on the other side of the road. The driver of the first bike, Mean Sok Meng, died instantly.

LOVESICK WOMAN SWALLOWS POISON
A woman was admitted to hospital after trying to commit suicide on Tuesday at a guesthouse in Kampong Chhnang while waiting for her lover to return. Police said the 22-year-old woman swallowed poison after renting a room at the guesthouse around 11am. The owner saw her vomiting later that afternoon and rushed her to hospital. She said she had taken the pill by accident, but police said she had a problem. A neighbour alleges the woman was waiting for her lover, but took the poison when he failed to show.

MAN ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE
A 53-year-old man was arrested in Preah Sihanouk province on Tuesday accused of attempting to rape a 7-year-old. The incident happened when the girl, a snack seller at the beach, was home alone. The accused, Var Chan, lured her to a secluded place behind the girl’s house and attempted to molest her, before the mother arrived home and rescued her. Var Chan confessed to the crime and was sent to provincial court.

PEOPLE SMUGGLERS CAUGHT IN THE ACT
Three people were arrested for human trafficking through Banteay Meanchey’s Malai district on Tuesday. Two men and one woman, aged between 17 years and 27 years-old, were attempting to transport 10 people illegally across the border with Thailand. Police sent the accused to provincial court on Wednesday, and the 10 victims were released.
