Vietnam is consulting other ASEAN member countries about a proposal that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) mediate in disputes over Preah Vihear Temple between Thailand and Cambodia.
Nguyen Phuong Nga, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was speaking in Hanoi on August 17 in response to reporters’ questions regarding the proposal.
She expressed hope that both Thailand and Cambodia would settle the dispute through peaceful means and dialogues in accordance with agreements between the two countries and with the international law. She called on both countries to refrain from armed conflicts that could affect ASEAN solidarity.
