HIGH DOWRY DEMAND PUSHES MAN TO SUICIDE
A 25-year-old man committed suicide by jumping into a well in Kandal province’s Ang Snuol district on Monday, after his marriage proposal was rejected by his girlfriend’s parents after they demanded more money than he could afford. The man’s sister said that the pair “really loved each other”, but that his resentment of her parents and their cash demands was so strong that he took his own life by plunging to his death in a nearby well. Police concluded that the man’s death was because of the unsuccessful marriage proposal.
