Temple Street Children’s University Hospital is inviting volunteers to take part in a ten day cycle ride to help raise funds for the hospital.

Taking place from 15-25th September 2010, the challenge will involve a tour of Cambodia encompassing some of the country’s major landmarks, including the world famous Angkor Wat in Siem Reap.

Cycling approximately 30-50km per day, fundraisers will also get the chance to travel along Cambodia’s stunning coastline while also taking in the sites of the country’s capital, Phnom Penh.

The children’s hospital helps sick children every year by aiming to make their stay in hospital less distressing. Money raised by the cycle ride will go towards the development of new treatment facilities, and will provide new medical equipment as well as helping to fund research.

People staying in hotels in Siem Reap may want to hire a bicycle themselves for the day and take part as fundraisers travel through the city.

The hospital is looking for fundraisers for the challenge aged over 18 years, both men and women, and cycling experience is not essential. A certain level of fitness is required; however for those taking part but there will be some training sessions taking place in Dublin in the months preceding the challenge.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com, commented: “The money raised from this event will benefit hundreds of children that are admitted to the hospital. Due to the large number of people that already visit Siem Reap and other destinations in Cambodia, travellers should ensure their desired accommodation is available by booking in advance while this event is taking place.”
