A TREE-planting ceremony organised by Phnom Penh’s ABC Cambodia talk radio station will take place in Svay Por village, Kampong Cham province, on Sunday. The ceremony is part of the station’s “greening” campaign, which visits a different area of the country every three months to plant new trees.
A Plus, an announcer at ABC Cambodia (FM 107.5MHz), said the campaign was in line with the station’s broadcasting programme, which focuses on social issues in Cambodia.
“Our aim is to promote tree-planting activities so they will become a habit among citizens even when we are not leading them,” he said.
He said that on Sunday the participants will be divided into work groups and given thousands of small trees to plant.
“They can also bring their own plants, but all they really need to bring is a desire to help the environment,” A Plus said.
He said the campaign is run without help from NGOs or government ministries to promote cooperation among Cambodian people.
The planting ceremony at Svay Por will be the second since the campaign started three months ago at Wat Knhek in Kampong Speu Province. About 200 participants planted 5,540 trees at the wat.
Registration to participate in this weekend’s ceremony closes tomorrow at 5pm. For more information, call 070 23 24 25 or 070 23 24 26.
