Kong Sopheareak, director of statistic department of Ministry of Tourism said in seven months this year, the number of Cambodian tourists visiting foreign countries was 276,607 an increase of 61 percent compared to the same period last year that was recorded at 171,802.

Kong Sopheareak, however, said his ministry has not collected figures of those visiting any particular country, saying such data will be made available only by the recipient countries.

He said the increase of more Cambodians visiting foreign countries is indicating that the living condition of the people is better and improved, while, at the same time, the visa exemptions to neighboring countries, is another cause that motivates the people traveling abroad.

So far, Cambodian people enjoy free visa access or visa exemption to four countries of the ten-number states of Association of Southeast Asian Nations: Vietnam, Laos, Singapore, and the Philippines.

In recent years, there have been many local companies advertising their tour arrangements to many parts of the world.

On the part of foreign tourists visiting Cambodia, the statistics showed that in seven months of 2010, there were 1,423,505 foreign tourists visited the country.

The number showed a significant increase of 13.85 percent compared to the same period in 2009.
